I am Pr. Phil Gustafson, a retired Lutheran pastor, certified PCC-level ICF coach, and Master NLP Practitioner with over 46 years of ministry experience. My passion is helping clergy and faith leaders rediscover clarity, courage, and confidence in times of transition and discernment.
In my coaching, I help clients connect their spirituality and faith to life’s challenges so they can move from being stuck or uncertain to being centered, resourceful, and renewed. Drawing from both Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)and faith-based insight, I guide pastors and ministry leaders in transforming challenges into opportunities for growth and deeper purpose.
As a WHY.os Coach, my own purpose framework is:
WHY – Better Way: I’m driven to help others find a better, more faithful way forward.
HOW – Challenge: I challenge assumptions and patterns that limit growth.
WHAT – Trust: I create safe, confidential spaces where leaders can do their most authentic work.
I live in Sun City, Arizona, where I currently serve as a Transition Coach for the Grand Canyon Synod of the ELCA, assisting congregations in leadership transitions while continuing my private coaching practice.
My credentials include:
ICF PCC Certification (Professional Certified Coach)
ELCA Segment 1 and Segment 2 Discipleship Coach
Master NLP Practitioner & NLP Coach
Certified WHY.os Coach
MBTI Certified Practitioner
Imposter Syndrome Coach
I have worked with pastors and church leaders in a variety of contexts — from revitalizing ministries to navigating burnout, beginning new calls, or healing from toxic environments. My coaching is rooted in trust, grace, and transformation, helping leaders find the better way God is calling them toward.
Mission: Cultivating Your Calling
Vision: Nobody Journeys Alone
Coaches connect dreams to concrete actions that create change for individuals and congregations.
The ELCA's offices are located on the ancestral homelands of the Peoria, Bodwéwadmi (Potawatomi), Myaamia (Miami), Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (Sioux), Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk), and Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo) tribal nations. We give thanks for their presence here since time immemorial.
