From our friends at Race and Faith:
Small Groups. Real Conversation.
Two conversations for people ready to talk about race.
Race & Faith is opening its doors to two online learning spaces for people who want to talk honestly about racism, shaped by faith, and held with deep care.
Talking about racism is hard, not because we lack conviction, but because we were socialized long before we were taught. Every one of us learned something about racism from somewhere — family stories, church traditions, school lessons, neighborhood norms, media, silence, avoidance, fear, or “politeness.” Those messages formed us. And when they go unnamed or unexamined, they shape how we show up in conversations about race today: what we fear, what we protect, what we assume, and what we avoid.
When our early socialization goes unchecked, we don’t make meaning out of what we inherited — and that makes honest, constructive conversations about racism feel confusing, tense, or overwhelming. These offerings are designed to help us slow down, name what shaped us, and practice talking about racism with integrity and courage.
Part 1: Before We Speak
Thursdays: October 8, 15, 22, and 29
6:30–8:00 PM Central
In this four‑week series, we’ll discover the messages we absorbed from the dinner table, the sanctuary, the classroom, and the culture around us.
Together, we’ll move from personal story to cultural story, to a clear next step. This is the work that prepares us to speak with honesty rather than fear, and care rather than avoidance.
Part 2: What We Carry Into the Room
Tuesdays: November 17, 24, December 1, 8, and 15
6:30–8:00 PM Central
This five‑week series is for those ready to go deeper. We’ll examine the forces that shape conversations about racism, triggers that make you want to leave the room when it gets hard and how to hold space
No prior class (Part 1) required. If you’re ready to start here, start here.
