From David Scherer and Joe Davis at JUSTmove:
In White Men for Racial Justice (WMRJ) Foundations, we examine the interlocking systems of power designed to use race, class, and gender to separate us from each other, and that harm all of us, including White men. Focusing on race, the Seeing White podcast series serves as an entry point and anchor of foundational knowledge, as well as a shared experience, for all of us. It is also a model of one white man’s accountable learning journey everyone in our community can draw from and reference.
Throughout eight consecutive virtual weekly gatherings, we will use small breakout discussions to process reflections from our journals about what we're thinking and feeling about the content in each Seeing White episode, and some supplemental materials. No matter how much or little work we have done, this experience will increase our competency to work more effectively in multiracial and multigender spaces, and challenge each of us to live into our values.
Our Vision: Our shared vision is an America in which everyone feels valued, has access to equitable resources to reach their full potential, and is part of diverse, joyful communities.
Our Values: We all have something to contribute; we all have something to learn. We value that we all come from diverse backgrounds (heritage, faith, socio-economic, political, sexual orientation, gender identity, education, etc) and will learn from those differences as we build common ground as white men committed to becoming more anti-racist and pro-justice.
Our Work: We accomplish this through a continuous feedback loop of learning and doing, reflection and action, that inform and inspire each other.
Our Unique Opportunity: White men, especially those with wealth, continue to hold disproportionate positions of power relative to our percentage of the population, and therefore have a unique duty and opportunity to act. We also stand much to gain.
